Martian geology

For those of you who missed the big plug the project got in Stargazing live , and would like to do more geological stuff but on another planet,  Zooniverse now runs a project called Planetfour:

“a citizen science project designed to help planetary scientists identify and measure features on the surface of Mars . . . the likes of which don’t exist on Earth. All of the images on this site depict the southern polar region, an area of Mars that we know little about, and the majority of which have never been seen by human eyes before!”

Sounds exciting. Just go to the site, register and start exploring.

Mendeley possibly soon to be bought by Elsevier

Rumours that Elsevier is in advanced discussion with Mendeley stirred up the twitterers and bloggers, here’s an opinion of what this could all mean- a good read.

Talking of publishers …

What a coincidence that after nearly 3 weeks of complaining through formal chanels, less than 12 hours after two of our professors had written irate emails to AGU that we finally got access to all the subscriptions we paid for.
