Oh yes, we have our own day! like it on Facebook or tweet #nld13

A New section: Careers

This, irregular, feature will highlight the latest opportunities in further education or industry – contributions will be most welcome.

CASP – MSc Petroleum Geoscience Scholarship

ERC EQUIPOISE LTD  – have Junior Geoscience & Junior Engineer vacancies

Here’s a reminder of the November careers event

Open Access

The University has launched what appears to be a more comprehensive and better designed web site to address the topic(s) of Open Access. You’ll find lots of useful links; e.g. to the Finch Report, the government, RCUK and the University’s responses. And it seems to be written in clear language – from what I’ve read so far. More here

Data curation survey results.

Thank you to all who responded – even those I blackmailed while in the library – and if you haven’t yet you can still do so at this address

The results make for interesting reading.  Laura, Jun and I haven’t got together yet to discuss these but will let you know as and when something arises.

You can see the full results from here, although there’s really not much more to them than this summary.

In the news

China resorts to geology to bolster their claim against Japan to the disputed islands in the East China sea – more here

Any Twitterers?

I stumbled across this Twitter trend yesterday #WhyEarthSci? Started by Prof. Tim Wright of Leeds, lots of familiar responses and a few surprising ones too. I was a little disappointed not to see anyone from Cambridge answer. Surely, surely we must have one person who is or was in the department that tweets! Oh, well if anyone wants to take part but doesn’t have an account I’ll be happy to post it for you.
