Current Earth Sciences Library News, No. 522, the Yard of Ale Edition

Library closed tomorrow and Monday

I am taking a couple of days off, so remember to bring your keys if you want to get in to the library. In case you get stuck trying to get a paper here are my ‘turn it off and on again’ library equivalents:

  1. Have you tried accessing the paper via the library web site link? http://www.esc.cam.ac.uk/library/library-resources/earth-sciences-e-journals-a-f
  2. Have you checked that we do have access on-line? http://search.lib.cam.ac.uk/

I can’t believe I forgot to feature this in the last library news:

More open access journal news

The Royal Society have announced the launch of a “A fast, open journal publishing high-quality research across all of science and mathematics.” more details here: http://rsos.royalsocietypublishing.org/

On the other hand – Publisher Targets University Researchers for “Pirating” Their Own Articles

“The American Society of Civil Engineers is cracking down on researchers who post their own articles on their personal websites. The publisher, which owns dozens of highly cited journals, claims that the authors commit copyright infringement by sharing their work in public.” http://torrentfreak.com/publishers-targets-university-researchers-pirating-articles-140516/

Volcano model news

Have you frequently wished you could see a nearly 3 metre tall working replica of the Soufrière St. Vincent volcano? Wish no more, get down to the Natural History Museum between Monday 9th & Friday 13th June to witness the London Volcano http://londonvolcano.com/about/ in action (I apologise for plugging the work of the other side).

Pint of Science follow up news

The talks were good, the evening was fun and so was the beer. Next year, if you’re asked to either participate or attend DO IT!

Pictures that don’t do justice to the event are here https://www.flickr.com/photos/earthscicam/sets/72157644362378598/

Lastly,

If you chose not, or were unable, to attend the Graduate Dinner here’s how it went:
